Day THREE: Florence, Italy

The next morning in Florence started out a bit overcast, but by the time we were packed and found breakfast, it had cleared up.  We read that you needed to get to the Duomo di Firenze (Dome Cathedral) super early to avoid the long lines and we also wanted the kids to be rested for the climb to the top; 463 steps up!!!!  Poor Leevi had Luke on his back, but the girls made it without any help!

The views were worth it when we made it to the top and the girls were so proud of themselves!

Back at the bottom!
We headed back to the hotel to grab our bags and then walk to the train station.  We had tickets booked on a 2:30 train, but were able to switch them to a 12:30 train since we were early.  The train ride to Rome was 1.5 hr and we were so happy to do that verses the 4 hr drive!!!  Luke snoozed and the girls made rainbow loom bracelets.
The fun began once we got to Rome and had to figure out how to buy our subway/bus passes and then get to apartment in Rome.  This was the first place we stayed that was outside the city, but so worth the 10 subway ride and 10 minute walk to the house.
Our plan was to settle in and then head into the city after an early dinner to catch some of Rome at night, but by the time we unpacked, grocery shopped for 3 days worth of food, and made dinner, we just decided to lay-low for the night.  We had two full days of Rome ahead of us and looking back it was a wise decision!  The apt was perfect with two bedrooms and a full sized kitchen.  We made all of the rest of our meals and snacks and saved a ton of money not to mention it still isn't fun to eat out with Luke because I feel like we just scarf our food down and tag team chasing him!
ROME, to be continued...
