The girls are trying basketball for the first time this winter and I can't say enough about the Upward program! I've never heard of it, but they are all over the states involving multiple sports. Our church runs the basketball program and everything about it is very structured, but 100% for the kids! There was an evaluation (tryout) to equally divide the teams and the players are matched up man to man when we have games based on ability. No score is kept and if the players make a mistake, they are usually given the ball back for a 2nd try. At the first two levels, kids aren't even allowed to steal the ball and don't start guarding their man until half court. We couldn't have picked a better place to learn the game. On top of all of that wonderful non-competitive fun, the kids are given 3 bible verses to memorize over the season and earn stars that they get to iron on their uniforms. They also earn game day stars for most Christlike, Effort, Sportsmanship, Offense, and Defense. Practices are only once a week (woohoo!!!!) and all teams break during the middle of practice for a short devotion time. The girls are loving it and so am I!
Kai had a high scoring game last week with 8 points!
And Hailey's highest scoring game has been 12 points!
Kailee's buddy Madison from our neighborhood is on her team!
I was taking a picture of Kai and Luke wanted in on the action with his basketball!
He's a trooper sitting through back to back games for the girls!
Hailey's team doesn't have any subs, so she gets a lot of action each Saturday!
I'm coaching Kailee's team and having fun with these kindergarten and 1st graders!
