Memorial Day 2011

On Sunday we drove 3 hrs with the Dozier Family to visit the memorial created to honor the memory of the 76,890 American soliders who were wounded or killed during the Battle of the Bulge

The Mardasson Memorial in Bastogne, Belgium (that's Hailey on the bottom right)"The Belgian people remember their American liberators July4th, 1946"I'm hoping you can click to enlarge the scripture on the 10 pillarsA little way down the road (which we were blindly looking for and thankfully stumbled upon) is this memorial for the 101st Airborne Division "E" Company (Easy Company that was depicted in the Band of Brothers)Zoomed in on the top right...Easy Company Foxholes in the Bois Jacques Woods

Battle Buddies

The woods were covered with these foxholes and it was just unbelievable to wander around. We had intentionally watched the Band of Brothers episode on Bastogne and the Battle of the Bulge the night before. It was an amazing way to spend part of our Memorial Day weekend remembering those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom today!

Birthday Weekend

The girls and I woke up on Thursday to birthday flowers for me and a special donut breakfast. I told Hailey that I wanted to take a picture before she ate a donut and she decided to pose (she's finally trained...she even smoothed her hair down!) :) The sign on the flowers said, "Happy Birthday, Babe" and Hailey asked me if it said, "Happy Birthday to the best mother in the world" I said yes! :) The girls' present to me that day was to be good listeners and not fight with each other. Kai kept saying over and over that she wouldn't eat my cake! :) I told Leevi that I just wanted something low-key with him and the girls so we decided on Family Bowling night! Perfect!! And of course my present was my fancy dancy camera! It might be my present until I turn 40! :)

On Friday night Leevi had planned a girls night out for me and coordinated it to be a surprise with my friends. I ended up finding out and he was bummed but it didn't matter at all to me and we had a great time and left 3 dads back at my house with 8 kids!!!!!!!!!!! We had dinner at Burg-Gasthof zur Strahlenburg...a castle ruins that has been turned into a restaurant. We sat outside overlooking the vineyards and watched a storm roll in! Brandy (Piper, Talia, and Farrah's mom), Susan (Cameron's mom), Allison (Anna and Lizzy's mom), Me, Rebecca (Andie and Charlotte's mom) Would I have any friends if I didn't have Hailey?!! :) We all live within a few houses of each other with the exception of Brandy who might be moving to our neighborhood soon! (Note the storm in the top right corner!)

On Saturday, my birthday celebrating was over and we went to Piper and Farrah's joint bday party! It was a perfect day and Hailey got to hang out with her best buddy (their middle sister, Talia, who goes to school with Hailey and is on our soccer team)

The birthday girls...Piper, 8 and Farrah, 4

Beautiful decorations!!! Piper had a butterfly theme and Farrah had a ladybug themeI get to take credit for these cute tissue paper pom-poms! I went over in the morning to help Brandy do some last minute party prep and she showed me how to make them (I will definitely keep this idea in my back pocket for future, inexpensive, quick party decor!!!)

Awesome name banners!

Perfect setting!

Farrah looking adorable!

The guests were invited to dress up also and Kai picked this dance costume and fluttered about the party all day!!!

Hailey opted for her staple sequin dress-up dress that I'm sure you've seen in a million pictures along with butterfly wings!

Happy 4th Birthday, Farrah!

Happy 8th Birthday, Piper!

The Dozier FamilyBest Buds!!!!!!

We already know that the girl loves her some cake!

Seriously?!

German Efficiency

We often talk about how efficient things are here in Germany...compact, practical, multiple uses, something that won't waste your time or space! Kai has picked up on this and uses her stool that helps reach the light switch in the bedroom as a bucket to carry her friends down in the morning. :) She's pretty sneaky and gathers all of them up before she even opens her bedroom door!

And I just love her morning hair! She was born with a perfect part on the right side of her head and now that she finally has some hair, when she wakes up in the morning it is swooshed up like a cockatoo!!!

Snapfish had a promo for a photobook for only $15 including shipping so I jumped on the opportunity and created a collection of collages of newborn pics, sisterly love, beach, snow, family, etc of the past 5 years!

Random photos/videos/tidbits from the girls

Hailey's recent tidbits:

She was on a kick of eating strawberries for breakfast because she thought they gave her more energy to out run the boys at recess! :) And when she had her Spring Break she said she was glad because she could take a break from chasing the boys (um, excuse me?!)

Hailey tripped in the house but caught herself as she hit the ground and said, "I'm o.k. I'm glad God gave me hands!"

Anna's Mom, Allison, and I trade babysitting hours. Hailey thought that when Ms. Allison watched her that Daddy could take me to a fancy dinner at the bowling alley! :)

Kailee's recent tidbits:

Her favorite phrases..."I want that for my birthday", "Is that perfect?", "Does that sound like a good plan?", and my favorite..."Is that a good trick?" (No, Kailee, that is scary for Mommy!)

Kailee wanted two stickers to put on her dress. I told her that she had to give me a kiss first. She said, "o.k. but just ONE kiss"

We were riding home from soccer with the windows down and I noticed in the mirror that Kai was hanging her water bottle out the window. When I told her to put it back in she got embarrassed and said, "I little. I just two!" Oh my...if she's old enough to throw out the "I'm two" card then she's old enough to know better! :)

She called me in to help her in the bathroom and I found her underwear warming in the radiator.
She came downstairs wearing an adorable looking sling for her puppy until I realized it was my sports bra!! Hailey had helped her! She was making the duck talk

Bracing herself for a chilly swim!

Trouble with a water gun!She came outside naked with her swimsuit in her hand asking for help but then she started to do a pee-pee dance! She wouldn't have made it to the bathroom! :) Of course my camera was in my hand and I couldn't resist! Kids in Germany pee everywhere! She bounced her curls out!

And they are back!Princess Hailey and Princess Charlotte making mud pies! They were on-guard for bees (hence the protective eyewear!) :)Lizzy pushing Kailee in the doll stroller

Spoiled rotten dog! She's used to sleeping that peacefully with little rugrats running around!

Slightly disturbing...those leashes wrapped around the princesses necks are from a Polly Pocket dog set. She said she put them around the princesses because they were running away. :)

Kailee set up this tea party by herself

Hailey's tea party!

Hailey and Kailee are in a hot debate about wanting me to have another baby....Hailey wants a boy because she feels bad for Leevi :) And Kai wants a girl. I told them that we should just pray for a healthy baby. So now they pray back and forth, "Dear God, Please help Mommy have a healthy ___ baby. Amen"

The Backyardigans have been a household favorite since before Hailey was 2. Kai hadn't watched too many of the shows but for the past few months has been obsessed with the 5 stuffed characters that we have from the show. Here is a recent clip of Hailey dancing to the Backyardigans followed by an old one from a least a year ago.
