Trip to the States April 2013

We got home from Ireland around 6pm and repacked for our trip to the States the following afternoon.  Leila was already with her fabulous doggie daycare (they are moving this summer..sniff, sniff!), so there was no sense in picking her up for a few hours.  Leevi had 30 days off from work before the deployment to Afghanistan...part of that time coincided with our Ireland trip and the rest was during our 2 1/2 week trip to the States (Va, Pa, and Az).  We arrived at the military airport on Ramstein and the unthinkable happened....WE WERE TOO LATE TO BOARD OUR FLIGHT!!!!!!!  It was literally like a bad dream...a nightmare!!!!!  How in the world could this happen!!!!????!!!!!!  We were there two hours before the flight departure, BUT since this was a military flight (even though we had CONFIRMED TICKETS) we had to be there by rollcall because after that they gave away our seats to Space A passengers.  To say we were shocked would be an understatement!  We missed rollcall by 20 minutes and they weren't budging!!!!!!!!!  Embarrassed, we had to lug all of our things (3 suitcases, golf clubs, stroller, and 3 carseats) back to the car and head home...speechless!!!!  We were traveling to the States with free tickets because our move last summer was from an overseas duty station to an overseas duty station (even though it was just 45 minutes down the road)...we had the same free tickets when we moved from Hawaii to Germany that we used the summer of 2011.  So, at no cost to us for our silly mistake, we cost the government $3,000 to get us 5 tickets one way the following morning on a commercial flight out of Frankfurt.  Ugh, maybe this was a precursor lesson for when we finally move from Germany...we will definitely NOT be late for the rollcall on our CONFIRMED seats!!!!!

We are beyond blessed that ALL three kids are amazing travellers!!!  Luke was busy when he was awake, but he napped great!  Hailey had to get started on her TON of makeup work for the 15 days of school she missed.
The girls were overdue on haircuts (it's sooooo expensive here!!!!) so we hit up a fun Kid salon!
Even with getting their hair straighten, it wasn't too pricey!
We linked up with the Matthews (neighbors who had just moved to DC from Germany) and the kids were reunited for a brief playdate at Chick-fil-a!  (We got in as much Chick-fil-a as our could!)
